Love Your Neighbour Communities

Love your neighbour is an ideal that exists across cultures, faiths and people groups. By choosing to include Love Your Neighbour in our name we choose to create intentional communities that encompass these ideals

Inclusive

We believe that all people are unique, have value and are created for community.

Intergenerational

Many studies express the added value that intergenerational community brings. Children that spend time with seniors have stronger emotional skills, better self esteem and a sense of social responsibility. Meanwhile Seniors who spend time with children report less depression, better physical health and a greater overall satisfaction with their lives.

Interconnected

Alongside the need for housing is the need for community. Our buildings will include commercial kitchens suitable for weekly community dinners and cooking classes. Our main floors will be vibrant social hubs with potential space for innovative supportive programming, classes and workshops. When not in use by LYNC tenants, ground floor space might also be available for rent by social agencies such as counselling services.  Community and rooftop gardens will increase food security as well as offer more opportunities for community building. Each community will be unique and designed to meet the needs of residents and the surrounding community.

Environmentally Responsible

Our goal is to build to the best energy standards we can as a commitment to future generations. The tools for sustainable building are already in place. It is our responsibility to do the best we can as good stewards of the earth. Many of the buildings of the future already exist today! Passive retrofit solutions provide substantial benefits. Utilizing the existing structure avoids the embodied carbon impact of new construction projects.  Our homes will strive to be energy efficient and carbon neutral.   We will achieve this by meeting the Phius standards on building envelope, using renewable energy, and water conservation to the best of our ability.

Our pilot project the Millblock Community, in New Hamburg, Ontario is currently in the planning and consultation stage. We will prioritize these ideals to create a vibrant and healthy community.
