With so many issues facing our world today, how do you choose between the priorities of mitigating climate change and dramatically increasing the availability of affordable housing?
At Love Your Neighbour Communities, we believe these priorities go hand in hand. Environmental responsibility is not just an afterthought in our affordable housing projects, it is prioritized from start to finish. Careful planning and research are required to build the most energy efficient buildings with the most up to date materials and technology.
In light of this, LYNC is pleased to announce that we have received a study grant in the amount of $126,000 from the Federation of Canadian Municipalities (FCM). This grant provides funding to assess in detail the approaches needed to implement construction of an energy efficient community building.
We are already deep into this work with our expert team at our Mill Block Community. Invizij Architect Inc. is a Canadian leader in adopting Passive House design principles. Considering and incorporating targets for net zero ready buildings, energy usage intensity and embodied carbon will help us build the Mill Block to be future-ready with significantly lower operation costs to keep our housing units affordable and green. Plans for the Mill Block community include building features such as triple glazed windows, suite energy recovery units (ERV) and low carbon concrete.
The research and assessments conducted in the study grant will open up the possibility of LYNC receiving additional capital funding from the Green Municipal Fund to help finance the construction of sustainable affordable housing – The Mill Block Community!
